Surfpick Picks

DSC06062-surfpick-lignum-vitae.jpg

Lignum Vitae is an absolutely fascinating candidate for nature's best guitar pick. It's an insanely dense wood that has been used in ship-building. It's ultra strong and dense, self-lubricates, and won't rot in water. Almost like nature's super-polymer.

What that means for guitar picks is that you get a stiff, smooth, warm, wooden guitar pick. An absolute must-have for a collector or anyone curious about novel guitar picks.

As of now there is really only one person making guitar picks out of Lignum Vitae, Surfpick creator who goes by the name of Ra.

Our Take:
Recommended
✓ Pros
  • the only wood pick worth it all
  • truly one-of-a-kind
  • all-natural
  • wear-resistant and durable
  • smooth picking action
✗ Cons
  • limited availability

Material: Lignum Vitae (Natural)

Lignum Vitae is an incredibly unusual material. It is unbelievably dense as far as wood goes; pick up a brick-sized piece of lignum vitae wood and it feels heavier than a brick––closer to stone. The wood is also rich in oils and has a smooth surface, making it surprisingly suited for picks. Other than the material being rare and expensive, the only problem is it's just hard to work.
