Our Approach to Music Copyright
HubGuitar is a free educational resource dedicated to helping guitarists learn and grow. We provide all of our lessons and materials at no cost to learners. We take copyright seriously and strive to respect the rights of all artists and copyright holders.
Independent Artists
For solo independent artists and small creators, we always seek direct permission before using any copyrighted material. We only feature their work when we have received explicit consent from the artist or rights holder.
Represented Artists
For larger artists with professional representation, we aim to follow the prevailing norms and practices currently established in the web space for educational guitar content. This includes standard practices for tablature, chord charts, and instructional materials.
Public Domain & Fair Use
Many of the musical works featured on HubGuitar fall into one of the following categories:
- Public Domain: Works whose copyright has expired or that were never subject to copyright protection
- Fair Use: Educational excerpts and transformative works used for teaching purposes under fair use doctrine
- Original Works: Content created by HubGuitar
