Martin Luxe Picks

A decade or so ago, boutique guitar picks were a mere curiosity; many would scoff at you (and still do, actually) if you said you bought a pick for $20 or more.

But first of all, anything, even the humble pick, has a little room for improvement. And second of all, times are tough and us guitar players can't afford to snap up new instruments like we used to.

What's clear is that bigger companies want in on a little of the action, which explains Martin's choice to create the Luxe pick.

There's nothing "wrong" with the pick, it's an ordinary 351 shape, available only in two gauges. The Torlon material itself is excellent! This would be an easy way to try out Torlon since it's sold on Amazon. However, you'll probably have better luck buying a boutique pick from Honey Picks, which offers Torlon picks in 4 shapes and 4 gauges (16 different types) as opposed to Martin, which offers 4.

Our Take:
✓ Pros
  • top-tier synthetic material
  • smooth picking action
  • great tone
  • durable
✗ Cons
  • expensive
  • limited options

Material: Torlon (Man-made)

Torlon is a very advanced synthetic material that has most of the advantages of vespel but at a considerably cheaper price. As compared to a typical pick, they are a little bit on the stiff side with a smooth attack.
