At around $80, the Abel Armrest[?]Affiliate Link is not cheap, but it is one of the best investments you can make for ergonomic comfort while playing the acoustic guitar.

    Pros

  • Improved circulation
  • Increased comfort
  • Play the guitar for longer periods
  • Easy to install
  • No modifications to guitar are necessary

    Cons

  • Relatively expensive

Who is this for?

The Abel Armrest is sure to make playing the guitar more comfortable.

Anybody who tries the Abel Armrest will find a big improvement in ergonomics right away, however it is players that are putting in longer practice sessions that will notice the most benefit. After holding a guitar for 30 minutes or more, the player may find their circulation affected, sometimes even causing tingling or numbness in the arms. The armrest lifts the arm off of the body of the guitar and provides a comfortably contoured place to rest your tired arm.

Who is this not ideal for?

The armrest does lift the arm up higher, so if your discomfort is due to a large bodied guitar that is too big for you, the Abel Armrest might not help. Also, if you are lucky enough to have a bevel in your guitar’s design, you probably don’t need an armrest. The bevel is a special feature typically available only in high-end guitars.

Why is it so expensive?

The Abel Armrest is a unique item for which there is no close competitor. Because it is a smaller niche item, the high costs of manufacturing have to be divided among a relatively small number of sales.

If you find your plucking hand uncomfortable in any way during your practice, you will find the Abel Armrest to be worth every penny.
