Guitar Eighth Note Rhythms, Pt 1

Every guitar player has to develop a strong sense of rhythm. It helps to learn to read rhythm. But it’s also important to be able to recognize rhythms you hear, and play them back accurately.

As with all rhythm exercises, you should practice this with a metronome.

The following rhythms are some common eighth note patterns often played on guitar.

  1. Practice these rhythms using any of your favorite chords that you’ve learned.
  2. Try playing all five pentatonic scale patterns using these rhythms.
  3. Once you have mastered this, try playing other rhythms. There are more rhythms available in in Eight Note Rhythms, Part 2.
